State champion Brad Jaffe

Farmington scored 18 points, eight
less than state champ Okemos.
Highlighting the Raiders' effort,
Brad Jaffe won the No. 1 singles title
in Division II. He beat Chris Mitchell
of Saline in the final, 6-3, 6-1.
Jaffe, the top seed, breezed through
all but one set of his four matches,
losing just 16 games during the two-
day event. His toughest match was the
semi-final, when he beat Todd
Townsend of East Lansing, 6-2, 7-6.
Winning the singles title "feels
incredible," Jaffe said. "It's something
I've worked for the entire year."
Raiders Coach Rick Jones said Jaffe
"played really smart. He kind of
changed his game up; he didn't just
simply try to pound the ball."
Jaffe said he felt he'd won the final
because he "really grinded my oppo-
nents and really worked them. They
were worn down. I really kept more
balls in play than my opponent."
Unseeded Brandon Frankel fin-
ished second at No. 4 singles. He won
a nearly four-hour match in the sec-
ond round, taking the third set
tiebreaker, 9-7.
The Raiders No. 1 doubles team of
Jay Berman and Mark Frankel reached
the semi-finals, then lost their first
match of the year to Grand Rapids
Forest Hills Northern in three sets.
The No. 3 doubles team of Josh Wool
and Andrew Golaszewski also reached
the semi-finals.
In Division II, Biocn-ifield Hills
Andover was the runner-up to Detroit
Country Day. 27-23. Eric Migdal pre-
vailed at No. 3 singles, while the team
of Jay Frankel and Matt Watson won
at No. 1 doubles and Aaron Beitner
and James Cheong triumphed at No.
2. West Bloomfield was fifth in
Division I.
