prostitute (Zaharira Harifai, pictured)
and unwittingly solves a crime staged
for his _benefit. The film won a Golden
Globe for Best Foreign Language
Film in 1972 and was nominated
for an Oscar in the same category.

Jerusalem that bears comparison to
The English Patient and Johnny Got His
Gun. Dan Wolman's The Distance
(1995) poignantly focuses on the com-
plexities of modern Israeli family life
through the story cfa young man
whose emotional and family ties are
divided between Jerusalem and New
York. Aner Preminger's Blind Man's
Bluff (1993) was honored at the
Jerusalem Film Festival for its portrayal
of a young female pianist's search for
fulfillment amidst conflicting personal
and professional entanglements. Short
pieces like The Benny Zinger Show, The
Shower, and Second Watch are all
award-winning efforts by today's most
accomplished Israeli filmmakers.
NCJF is a nonprofit archive and
resource center established in 1976 to
preserve and restore the cinemato-
graphic records of the Jewish experi-
ence. It is the largest Jewish film
archive outside of Israel and distributes
the largest collection of Jewish-themed
