Fli ilmmakers with roots as far away as Japan and as close as
Bloomfield Hills will have their work showcased during the pre-
miere of the Jewish Community Center's Lenore Marwil Jewish
Film Festival.
The movie marathon, running June 10-16 at the Star Theatre
in Southfield and the D. Dan & Betty Kahn Building in West
Bloomfield, also features talks by some of the people who made
the films and others who are experts in the subject matter covered.
Keiko Ibi, the former "Miss Japan" who won a 1999 Oscar for her documen-
tary The Personals: Improvisations on Romance in the Golden Years (USA; 1998),
has agreed to have her film shown -at many Jewish festivals across the country.
She talked by phone with the Jewish News about her production experiences.
"The people in the film have become my good friends," says Ibi, whose
documentary about Jewish seniors in a community theater group will be
shown as the fourth of four short films beginning at 5 p.m. Tuesday, June
