Special to Adat Shalom's
project is the opportunity for
medical examinations one
evening ar the synagogue by
physicians and nurses who are
members of the congregation.
Pediatric exams will be avail-
able for the children. Free fol-
low-up medical care, where
needed, will be arranged
through the South Oakland
Shelter.
Non-Jewish friends of Adat
Shalom members have volun-
teered ro assist on Friday night
and Saturday. Because of
kashrut, most food will be
cooked ar the synagogue. Some
kosher establishments have
agreed to donate their prod-
ucts.
Micki Grossman and Linda
Warner are chairing the home-
less project. Dozens of syna-
gogue families, including chil-
dren, will be involved in food
preparation, laundry, activity
planning and other tasks.
Committee chairs are Celia
and Michael Lubetsky, Karen
Rosender, Karen Lewis, David
Goodman, Larry Kaplan, Myra
Gross and Sheri Devries.
Individuals and businesses
have donated food, household
items, toiletries and financial
support.
"Although problems of the
homeless are frequently
thought to be associated with
harsh weather, homelessness is,
in fact, a year-round concern,"
said Linda Warner. "The dif-
ference between the homeless
and us is often just a quirk of
fare.
