Community to
cap off celebration
of 100 years of
organized Jewish
philanthropy.
hether you'll be wear-
ing boots or sandals,
sneakers or dress shoes,
it's time to get ready
for the Walk for Israel, which honors
the partnership between Israel and
Detroit's Jewish community.
The annual walk — Sunday, June
6, in Oak Park — will climax the
year-long celebration marking 100
years of organized Jewish philan-
thropy in Detroit. The walk is tradi-
tionally part of the Israel Fest, which
this year features a Kosher Food Fair.
Speakers will include three mayors
from Israel's Central Galilee,
Michigan's Partnership 2000 sister
region of Nazareth, Nazareth flit,
Migdal HaFmek and the Jezreel
Valley. They are Menachem Ariav,
Eli Barda and Iris Klein.
The Israel Scouts Friendship
Caravan will entertain with music
and dance at 1 and 5 p.m.
Hannan Lis, Israel Fest and Walk
for Israel chairman, said the celebra-
tion, in honor of Israel's
Independence Day — Yom
HaAtzmaut — "connects Israel to
American Jews," something of signif-
icance to the Israeli-born Lis.
Festivities will take place on the
Taubman Jewish Community
