Maccabi gold as Jaffe's doubles part-
ner in 1997. A third-year varsity per-
former, he played No. 3 doubles in
1997, then played No. 2 along with
then-freshman Berman last season.
The pair finished 22-1 and reached
the state semi-final. They became the
No. I team this year, posting a 25-0
record, including victories in the
WLAA and regional events.
"They're not as physically domi-
nant as a lot of people's No. 1
team," explained Jones, "but they're
really smart players — very, very tal-
ented. They see the ball well. They
move together well as a team. They
have great chemistry with one
another, both on and off court.
At No. 3 doubles, Wool teamed
with Andrew Golaszewski for most of
the season. The pair earned WLAA
and regional titles.
"They've been a real pleasant sur-
prise, as consistent as they've been all
year," said Jones. "They seem to feed
off of one another, and they just play
good solid tennis. They seem to enjoy
playing together and I think they've
improved a lot as the year has gone
on.
Brad Jaffe's brother, Steve, and
Mark Frankel's brother, Rob, have
frequently teamed up at No. 4 dou-
bles to form the Raiders' "little
brother team. The young duo
played well this year and won the
WLAA tournament. Neither the
regional or state tournaments
include a No. 4 doubles match.
However, due to a teammate's
injury, Steve Jaffe moved up to No.
2 doubles at the regional, and won.
"Steve may be our most improved
player," Jones said. "He has really
stepped in and just earned himself a
spot. Those kids have won a lot of big
matches. They've won both the tour-
naments they've been in (prior to the
WLAA event). They have just played
really good tennis."
Mike Levy has filled in at several
spots this season. "He's a left-hander,
who did work on his game an awful
lot in the off-season and it's really
showing," said Jones. "He's made a
real nice contribution."
All that remains for this team is the
state tournament. Confidence is no
longer a problem. The Raiders are
shooting for No. 1. "It would be a
great way to end my senior year,
Brad Jaffe said. "I don't think any
team in our school has been close to
being No. 1 in the stare for a real long
rime. It would be a huge accomplish-
ment for our team." H
