JWV To Mark
Memorial Day

Memorial Day services by the Michigan
Jewish War Veterans and Ladies
Auxiliary and the Jewish War Veterans
of the Royal Canadian Legion and
Jewish veterans from Russia will be 10
a.m. Sunday, May 30, at Machpelah
Cemetery, 21103 Woodward, Ferndale.
A second service will be at noon at
Hebrew Memorial Park Cemetery,
21503 East 14 Mile, Mt. Clemens.
Rabbi Herbert Yoskovvitz of Adat
Shalom Synagogue will officiate at
Machpelah and Rabbi Baruch Levin at
Hebrew Memorial. The events, directed
by JWV State Commander Robert
Feldman and Ladies Auxiliary President
Shirley Schlussel, will be chaired by Past
Department Commander and Chief of
Staff Milton Klein.
The sounding of taps will be ren-
dered by musicians from Ferndale High
School at Machpelah Cemetery. The
Canadians will be led by Commander
Izzv Sigel and the Russians by
Commander Arkagiy Ongeyberg and
spokesman Hy Shenkman.
Services are open to the public, with
friends and relatives of deceased veterans
urged to attend. In the event of rain, ser-
vices will be indoors.
Refreshments will follow the Hebrew
Memorial service. For information, call

Dr. Sidney Fine, Andrew Dickson
White distinguished professor of history
at the University of Michigan, will pre-
sent "The United States' Reaction to the
Holocaust" at the Jewish Historical
Society's annual meeting and luncheon,
11:30 a.m. Sunday, June 6, at Temple
Beth El.
Philip P Mason, Wayne State distin-
guished professor of history and founder
and emeritus-director of the Walter P.
Reuther Archives of Labor and Urban
Affairs, has called Fine one of the
nation's top 10 historians.
Gov. John Engler, the legislature, his
colleagues and friends recently honored
Fine for 50 years of dedicated reaching
at the University of Michigan. A teacher
and scholar of 20th-century history, he
is the author of 11 books.
