Center Camps
Take Registration

Registration is being taken for the
Jewish Community Center's summer
day camps. Held at both Center build-
ings, Oak Park and West Bloomfield,
the day camps offer programs for Chil-
dren age 6-16. Preschool camps and
extended care are also available.
A variety of sports camps are offered
for children 6-14. One-week specialty
camps will be held at the JCC's Jimmy
Prentis Morris Building in Oak Park.
Photographers will team basic skills;
other sessions will focus on art, sports,
dance and woodworking. Traditional
four-week programs also are available.
Daily adventures, leaving from the
D. Dan and Betty Kahn Building in
West Bloomfield, are scheduled around
metro Detroit for teens in grades
seven-nine. A three-day trip to
Chicago or King's Island also is
planned.
A 40 percent discount on a family
membership is available to qualifying
families; however, membership is not
required to send a child to JCC sum-
mer camps.

Riegle Award
Aids Resettlement

The Flint Jewish Federation will pre-
sent the Donald Riegle Community
Service Award to Melvyn S.
Brannon, president and CEO of the
Urban League of Flint; Arthur
Hurand, chairman, Dawn Systems
Inc.; and Olivia P. Maynard, president,
Michigan Prospect for Renewed
Citizenship. They will be honored at
the 10th annual Riegle Award din-
ner, 5 p.m. Thursday, June 3, at the
Ramada Plaza Hotel in Flint.
Dinner proceeds have assisted Flint's
Jewish Family and Children's Services in
the resettlement of over 300 individuals
from the former Soviet Union.
The dinner is chaired this year by
Inez M. Brown, city clerk of Flint, and
Larry Thompson, president of the Flint
Cultural Center Corporation.
Awardees are honored for their
display of exceptional commitment
in the area of community service.
This year's recipients have helped to
enhance the quality of life, preserve
and protect human dignity and con-
tribute to the improvement of the
welfare of the citizens of the greater
Flint area.

Kosovo Refugees
Need Assistance

The Jewish community is undertaking
special efforts to collect baby care items
for Kosovar refugees. Congregations,
youth groups and organizations are
asked to consider holding a special drive
for such items.
To arrange a pick-up, call the

Needed are diapers (all sizes), diaper
wipes, baby powder, baby lotion, baby
shampoo, baby soap, baby blankets
(summer weight), sleepers, crib sheets,
pacifiers, rattles and toys.
Individuals can:
• bring new items to donate to the
Penske Corp. truck at the D. Dan &
Betty Kahn Building of the Jewish
Community Center in West Bloomfield.
host a "kitchen shower" for such
items as sets of dishes and flatware for
four, tea pot, coffee pot, toaster, assorted
pans, iron, ironing board, dish rowels,
bath towels, sheets, shower curtain, dic-
tionary, telephone, answering machine.
• host a "women's shower" for femi-
nine hygiene items, make-up, etc.
• host a "baby shower" for the lisre
baby care items.
• volunteer to staff the volunteer hot-
line for Interfaith Disaster Relief, housed
at the Jewish Family Service.

Variety Kids
To See Tigers

Variety — The Children's Charity will
take 1,000 children and their families
to see home run champion Mark
McGwire and the St. Louis Cardinals
play Detroit at Tiger Stadium, Sunday,
June 6.
Donations are being sought to
sponsor the event; all contributions
are welcome. Special packages from
$100 to $10,000 are available with
each sponsor recognized by Variety
Each child will receive a T-shirt, sou-
venir and refreshments.
"Most of us are very fortunate to
have healthy children, so being able to
spend an afternoon out with these
youngsters is all the more meaning-
ful," said event chairman and local
attorney Randall Smith.
