She is CEO of one of the best
Chinese restaurant doings in the
country ... employing over 1,200 peo-
ple in her multi-million dollar chain
... and she's authored two fine
Chinese cookbooks.
Leeann Chin Chinese Cuisine is a
very welcomed restaurant operation
that does shopping sectors proud ...
bringing a lot of customers to the area.
A LUNCH best bet ... The salmon ,
sandwich on a roll at Big Rock Chop
& Brew, Eton Street in Birmingham ...
There's jazz, too, every Wednesday,
from 6 to 10, on the outside terrace at
Norm LePage's popular restaurant.
A JAPANESE and Korean restau-
rant is expected to open in Sugar Tree
Plaza on Orchard Lake Road, this fall.
MAUREY PASTOR is toying with
the thought of starting another
Detroiters' club in Las Vegas ... The
last one fizzled -out after Maurey took
down his shingle as president ... and
the members thought it could go on
without his consulting knowledge.
WITH BASEBALL well on its way
into another season, how about a cou-
ple of good pitches?
Like the top hitter, habitual leader
of his league, who experienced a sud-
den slump, and struck out four times
in a single game ... When he came
home, his wife rushed out to greet
him, threw her arms around his neck
and asked, "How many hits did you
have today?" ... The batsman looked
sternly at his wife and grumbled, "You
just do the cooking around here,
understand? I'll do the hitting."
Then there's the one about one of
the biggest stars in baseball a while
back, who could drive the old apple
to every corner of the park, but was
not particularly noted for his brain
... On one hop of his team to the
west, the star is reputed to have sent
out for a bottle of Scotch while the
train was held up temporarily at a
wayside station, because of a derail-
ment ahead ... One of the lads who
had come to watch the repair work
recognized the famous athlete and
was delighted to perform the errand
for him ... He came back with a bot-
tle of Scotch that bore an unfamiliar
label, but listed on it six kings of
England who had declared this to be
their favorite brand ... The baseball
star examined the strange bottle for
a moment with unusual concentra-
tion and then handed it back to the
messenger ... "Don't try to palm any
of this poison off on me," he bel-
lowed. "Every one of these guys who
recommended it is dead." Li
