Dancing
For JARC

The event and its costs turned
out to be greater than expected.
So to keep a promise, part-
ners Mike Gold and Bob
Friedman dug into their own
pockets last week to present a
$2,500 check to the Jewish
Association for Residential Care
via Friedman's 11-year-old
nephew, Danny Dick-
Friedman, a JARC client.
Gold and Friedman, of
Celebrity Placement Services,
had promised that proceeds
from their 1st Official
Unattached and Unmatched
Ball at Adat Shalom
Synagogue on April 25
would go to JARC. The
two were overwhelmed by
the big turnout, but didn't
have much in the way of
proceeds after paying for
the food, band, open bar
and advertising.
Friedman was surprised
to see the large number of
walk-in attendees. "We
had about 170 pre-paid
going in, but had 350
total," he said. Admission
was $45 pre-paid, and $55
at the door.
"At 11:30 p.m.," he said, "there were
still 100 people there, and people were still
dancing."
He said the dance didn't do well financial-
ly, but has set the stage for follow-up events.
"People were exchanging phone num-
bers and walking out together," Friedman
said. "If we had written a script we could-
n't have written it any better."
