Youth Awards

This year's Jewish Youth Awards,
sponsored by Betty Sliverfarb and the
National Council of Jewish Women,
presented high school seniors Judith
Horwitz and Eric Sirota with a $1000
scholarship each at the May 2 ceremo-
ny at Temple Shir Shalom. Horwitz
was sponsored
-}_e Agency for
Jewish Education and Sirota was spon-
sored by the Central Region United
Synagogue Youth.
Each of the 30 applicants was hon-
ored with a gift of a book and then rec-
ognized by Rabbi Dannel Schwartz in
congratulatory remarks. Judges Robert
Brown, Rod Myers, Rena Littman,
Risha Rothberger and Helen Wexler
interviewed the applicants and reviewed
the essays on "How Judaism Affects
Who I Am." Co-chairwomen were
Marian Littman and Beverly Stone.

Sisterhood
Installation

Temple Israel Sisterhood recently host-
ed its annual installation dinner.
Nancy Jonas was installed as president.
She is an active sisterhood member,
having served as financial secretary,
treasurer, program vice president and
ways and means vice president. She
has served as the president of two
ORT chapters and treasurer of the
Jewish EnsembI Theatre. Together
. with her husband Jim she served as
president of the Temple Israel Couples
Club. She is a CPA and a teacher.
