Want a steak burger? ... Folks can
have this and more vegetarian-style on
the Mei Ling menu.
People love the fresh-squeezed Soy
Smoothies made with soy milk, sher-
bet and fruit juices ... They taste like
fruit milk shakes ... Also the fresh-
squeezed juices ... carrot, etc.
It is a known fact that vegetarian
products are easy for the body to
digest ... And that green vegetables,
especially, provide even more protein.
Vegetarian tasting has sure come a
long way ... No more boring food ...
And amazingly good taste in an unbe-
lievably wide variety of selections.
Almost everything these days can
be made without meat ... And the
many tastes of tofu have given this a
completely different outlook in joyful
eating habits.
Mei Ling Chinese vegetarian
restaurant is a wonderful experience.
MAIL DEPT ... from Jim
Fitzpatrick, owner of Pike Street
Restaurant in Pontiac ... "On Friday,
we were very busy, partly I'm sure
because the Jewish News had just come
out. On Saturday, we were over-
whelmed. Not only did we have more
than the usual number of reservations,
many of them your readers, but we
had a flood of walk-ins from the Rod
Stewart concert at the Palace and the
Cranbrook Academy of Art fund-rais-
er a block away in Pontiac. The
Cranbrook event alone drew 700 peo-
ple, many of whom came to Pike to
eat. The resulting crowd overtaxed our
staff and facilities, and a number of
people had to wait too long for their
food. We even ran out of some of our
popular favorites.
"I am sorry we did not satisfy each
and every guest in the manner which
they deserve and should expect at Pike
Street. Pike Street is every bit of the
restaurant you described in your arti-
cle, and we work to prove it each and
every day.
PIKE STREET, by the way, will
celebrate its 18th anniversary, from 6-
9 p.m. Tuesday, May 18.
RUSS GREEN, an 85-year-old
trumpet gent in the fine quartet that
plays Friday and Saturday evenings at
Carl's Chop House, Grand River at
John Lodge Expressway, is a jazz stal-
wart with a lot of wonderful experi-
ence.
Many will remember Russ from
Morrie Wasserman's Flame Show Bar,
while he was with Maurice King ...
Russ was also at the Plantation, Jakk's
and other spots around town ... His
stints with Count Basie, Jimmy
Lunsford, McKinney's Cotton Pickers,

Parthenon & Cone

Royal
