Rabbi Saperstein At Temple Beth El Rabbi David Saperstein, director of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, will be the speaker at 8 p.m. Shabbat services and grad- uation ceremonies Friday, May 21, at Temple Beth El. The temple's 1999 Theodore and Mina Bargman Scholar, Saperstein will speak on "Walk the Talk: Applying Jewish Values to Contemporary Life." Rabbi Saperstein has served as RAC director for more than 25 years. Responsible for advocacy on a range of social justice issues and for providing programmatic materials to synagogues, federations and Jewish community relations councils, RAC coordinates programs training 2,000 Jewish adults, youth, rabbinic and lay leaders each year. Saperstein co-chairs the Coalition ro Preserve Religious Liberty, corn- prised of 60 national Catholic, Protestant, Jewish and educational groups opposing school prayer amendments and legislation. Also an attorney, Saperstein teaches seminars in First Amendment church-state law and Jewish law at the Georgetown University Law School. He has authored or edited six books, the most recent being Jewish Dimensions of Social Justice: Tough Choices of Our Time.
