died April 29.
He is survived by his wife, Rita; sons and
daughter-in-law Peter and Rita, Jon; grand-
children Steven, Todd, Meredith, Michael,
Jordan; sister Rose Bedrick; sisters-in-law
and brothers-in-law Phyllis and Royal
Pollokoff, Marcia and Donald Schiffman.
He was the dear brother of the late
Lillian Laskin.

Hospice or the Karmanos Cancer Institute.

She is survived by her sons and daughter-

Andrew Berman, Mark Price, Rick Price;
great-grandchild Mara Cranis.
Mrs. Berman was the beloved wife of the
late Max Berman.

BORIS BLYAKHMAN, 84, of Oak Park,
died May 9.
He is survived by his wife, Fenya
Blyakhman; son and daughter-in-law
of his deeds were chronicled by Rabbi
Judah Nadich, Gen. Dwight
Eisenhower's chaplain, in his book
Eisenhower and the Jews.
After his discharge in 1946, Rabbi
Eskin became the Jewish chaplain at
the Veterans Administration Hospital
in Allen Park and served as Jewish
chaplain at Selfridge Air Force Base in
Mt. Clemens and Wurtsmith Air Force
Base in Oscoda. In 1950, he was
appointed national chaplain of the
Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his children, Dr.
Vivian Eskin of New York City, Mrs.
Barbara Eskin-Cohen of West
Bloomfield, Dr. Stephen Eskin of New
York City; grandchildren Joshua
Cohen, Yaniv Kot and Amanda
Cohen.

Rabbi Herbert S. Eskin
Rabbi Herbert S. Eskin, 88, of West
Bloomfield, died May 2, after a long
illness.
Rabbi Eskin was the first rabbi of
Congregation Beth Shalom in Oak
Park and was rabbi of Congregation
Beth Moses in Detroit. He conducted
High Holiday services for over 20
years at Congregation Ahavas Achim
in Detroit.
Born in Kiev, Rabbi Eskin was
descended from a long line of rabbini-
cal scholars. He earned a law degree
from the Detroit College of Law in
1938.
During World War II, Rabbi Eskin
was a chaplain with the 100th Infantry
Division during the heavy fighting in
southern France and Germany. Near
the end of the war Rabbi Eskin, sta-
tioned in Stuttgart, Germany, provided
food and shelter for the newly-liberat-
ed concentration camp survivors and
established the "Israelitische Kultus
Farein," where survivors obtained help
in locating surviving family members
and relatives in other countries. Some
