Lucas Lecture
Set For May 13

Assisted Living Residence

Professor Omri Ben-Shahar, professor
of law and economics at Tel Aviv
University, will deliver the annual
Lucas Lecture 7:30 p.m. Thursday,
May 13, at the Jimmy Prentis Morris
Building of the Jewish Community
Center, Oak Park.
He will speak on the implications of
the election and the peace process on
the Israeli economy. A dessert reception
will follow
Professor Ben-Shahar is a research
fellow at the Israel Democracy
Institute and a panel member of
Israel's Antitrust Court. He has
joined the University of Michigan
Law School's regular faculty.

BAHM Holds
Graduation

The Beth Abraham Hillel Moses reli-
gious school will conduct graduation
exercises on Thursday evening, May 13,
at the synagogue. The graduates will
conduct a Mincha service; at the conclu-
sion of the service they will receive their
diplomas and a reception will follow.
The 1999 graduating class members
are Jared Averbuch, Carri Farber, Scott
Germansky, Stefanie Horowitz, Mandi
Issac, Eugene Karasik, Sam Langberg
and Aimee Roby.

Professor Robert Moses Shapiro of
Yeshiva University will speak at 3
p.m. Sunday, May 16, at the Jimmy
Prentis Morris Jewish Community
Center. The slide lecture, titled "On
the Eve of Destruction: Jews in
Interwar Poland," is being presented
under the auspices of the Cohn-
Haddow Center for Judaic Studies at
Wayne State University. It is free and
open to the public.
Professor Shapiro is a specialist on the
religious and communal history of Lodz
Jewry in the interwar period. He has
written numerous articles in Polish,
Hebrew and English on the Jews of
Poland. He has organized programs and
collected documentation for conferences
and exhibits on the Holocaust at the
YIVO Institute and at Yeshiva
University, where he is on the faculty.
