chuckling. "Gradually, this hurting
creature came around and became one
of the best animals in the herd to
work with. She was the most patient
and peaceful of them all. And I have a
wonderful picture with Emma, where
she suddenly reached over and sort of
kissed me on the mouth."
Voight genuinely enjoyed working
on the story of Noah, who with his wife
and their sons barely escape a great
flood that covers the earth. The people
in Noah's new village harass and ridicule
them after God commands him to
build a giant ark ro house a breeding
pair of all the earth's animals — at the
height of a terrible drought. But
nobody laughed when water altered the
terrain and carried everyone away
"I've studied lots of world religions
and have deep friends among the
Hopi Indians, who have a very corn-
plex and beautiful belief system. I have
respect for everybody's religion," says
> Voight, who is aware that certain Bible
scholarS claim that Noah died ar the
ripe old age of 950 (Genesis 9:28).
"I became focused on Noah and his
era through reading the Bible, some
archaeological texts and attending
some scholarly lectures. I'm fascinated
by the whole spectrum," says Voight.
