Kagan-Friedman

Rabbi Yitschak Meir and Roche'
Kagan of Oak Park announce the
engagement of their daughter Chaya
Devorah to Rabbi Mordechai (Mottel)
Friedman, son of Rabbi Manis hako-
hain and Chana Friedman of Twin
Cities, Minn.
Chaya Devorah is a graduate of Beit
Rivka Academy and has taught in
Chabad schools in San Antonio, Tex.,
and Oak Park. Mottel received semicha
(rabbinic ordination) at the Lubavitch
Academy in Moscow, Russia, and has

held teaching and administration posi-
tions at the movement's yeshivot and
Chabad houses in California, Illinois,
Wisconsin, Minnesota and in the for-
mer Soviet Union.
Following a June 13 wedding,
Rabbi Friedman will pursue
advanced Talmudic studies in New
York for one year. Subsequently, the
couple plan to embark on a lifelong
shlichus (mission) at one of the edu-
cational outreach institutions of the
Lubavitcher rebbe.

Rose Goodman Bankler of West
Bloomfield announces the engage-
ment of her daughter Elyse to Steven
Aronoff, son of Hyla Aronoff and
Seymour Aronoff, both of Toronto.

Alexandra Couceiro da Costa and
David Jared Newman were married in
Ponte de Lima, Portugal.
The bride is the daughter of Dr.
Alexandre and the late Leonor Couceiro
da Costa of Porto, Portugal. The groom
is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Howard S.
Newman of Waterford.
The garden wedding took place on
the vineyard estate of the bride's fami-
ly. Gregory Newman, the groom's
brother, was the best man. The cele-

bration included 26 family members
and close friends from Chicago,
Boston, New York, New Jersey and
Michigan. The groom's proud grand-
mother Beatrice Matz joined the fes-
tivities. Bubble Ann Newman sent
good wishes from Florida.
Following a honeymoon in
Jamaica, the couple had a luncheon
reception given in their honor at
Morels in Southfield.
