Dr. Fagin is director of the division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Cincinnati, Col- lege of Medicine, who spoke at our recent AACE Meeting at the Ritz- Carlton. Unfortunately, the small caption under the picture didn't include that Dr. Fagin is an authority on the genetics of thyroid cancer. He spoke to us about the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster. There was a large increase in the incidence of papillary cancer or the thyroid in children exposed to the nuclear dis- aster. Phyllis Meer, who is state chair for the Children of Chernobyl commit- tee, addressed our membership briefly on the efforts of her committee to bring children from the Chernobyl area to the safety of Israel. Because of severe financial problems in the Cher- nobyl area, the level of medical care does not approach that which is avail- able in Israel.
