remodeled interior look of freshness
includes many memorable art pieces
displayed throughout the classic restau-
rant ... The fascinating conversation
pieces lend an air of easy sophistication
... Sculptured floral table bases and
vases, ceramic sculptures, glass vessels,
African masks, oil paintings, etc.
Its main dining room, seating
about 90, has a charming mural of
California mountains and vineyard
scenes ... surrounding a cozy design of
dark woods, rich colors and crisp
modern appearance.
The Porch of the restaurant is an
enclosed gem ... It seats around 60 in
another very pleasant atmosphere with
white wood windows, framed art on
the brick, green and white walls, live
trees, greenery atop windows, fresh
flowers on all tables and a high-slated
wood ceiling ... Brian's decorative
touch is most apparent ... and reason
for him to be proud.
Pike Street Restaurant boasts one of
the metropolitan area's largest and
most picturesque bars ... with a fine
menu of tapas served nightly ...
There's also a wine cellar tasting room
that seats another 16.
It is open weekdays for lunch, 11
a.m.-2 p.m., and dinner, 5-9 p.m. ...
Saturday hours are 5 -10 p.m. ... Greg
Nichols is at the bar-lounge piano bar
Thursday and Saturday evenings and live
077 in the bar area is on Friday nights.
The reputation Pike Street has
enjoyed is choice ... Its warmth and
informality coupled with a rejuvenated
interior ... and the culinary artistry of
Remy Berdy bring further enhance-
ment to its lofty standing.
A PASSOVER dinner was served in
the prison complex at Jackson this
year ... thanks to dedicated people
like the prison's Jewish chaplain,
Rabbi Alan Ponn of Temple Beth
Israel in Jackson ... and the congrega-
tion's Jewish Inmate Benefit Fund, of
which he is administrator.
About 30 Jewish inmates, 10 parents
of inmates and 15 guests, including
Rabbi David Nelson and Cantor
Samuel Greenbaum of Congregation
Beth Shalom in Oak Park; five students
from the University of Michigan, and
others, enjoyed the sumptuous Passover
buffet catered by Shirlee Bloom.
There were 65 seder dinners of
roasted chicken, tsimmes, gefilte fish,
chopped liver, roasted potatoes,
charoset, seder plate and various
Passover pastries ... 10 above the
order of 55 paid for from the fund.
The Jewish inmates participated in
seder functions ... reading from the
Haggadah, helping with games, etc. ...
