ALSO GOOD AT OUR LIVONIA
LOCATION ON PLYMOUTH RD.
This fall, Mumford, a comedy
Kasdan wrote, directed and produced,
will be released by Touchtone
Pictures.
"The movie is about a therapist
named Mumford who comes to a
small town and has an impact on the
people who live there," explains the
filmmaker. Filmed in California's
Napa Valley, it stars Loren Dean as
Mumford, Hope Davis, Jason Lee,
Alfre Woodard, Martin Short, Ted
Danson and Mary McDonnell.
"It's another big ensemble cast,
which is typical of what I like to do,"
says Kasdan. Any resemblance between
the name of Detroit's Mumford High
School and the main character, he
adds, is just a coincidence.
In his personal life, Kasdan is a
proud father. His son Jake wrote and
directed the film Zero Effect when he
was just 22. "My two sons grew up on
movie sets, and making films is in their
blood," says the elder Kasdan. His
youngest son, Jonathan, is at NYU
majoring in film.
"Writing and directing can be
very demanding, physically and
emotionally, but they are fun," says
Kasdan with a smile. You are with
a whole bunch of people and they
are all there to serve you. They are
doing this thing that came out of
your head. There hasn't been a day
since I began working in this great
industry that I haven't felt, 'Gee,
this is amazing.'"
Lawrence Kasdan will be at the following events, all of which are free and
open to the public:
• 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 20: Kasdan will lecture at this year's annual
Hopwood Awards ceremony at Rackham Auditorium in Ann Arbor.
• 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 20: The film Grand Canyon, co-written by
Lawrence and Meg Kasdan, will be shown at the Michigan Theater, 603 E.
Liberty, Ann Arbor. After the screening, the Kasdans and producer Charles
Okun will answer questions from the audience.
• 2-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 21: Kasdan will lecture on "The Art
of Filmmaking" in the Auditorium of the Natural Sciences Building.
Seating is limited.
