Camp Weekend

The Sholem Aleichem Institute will
sponsor Tamarack '99 on April 30, May
1 and 2, at the Butzel Center in
Ortonville.
The featured speaker for the weekend
will be Dr. Brian B. Schmidt, associate
professor of Near Eastern studies at the
University of Michigan. An archaeolo-
gist, linguist and Middle East scholar,
Professor Schmidt will discuss:
"Searching for Our Ancestors: 100 Years
of Archaeology in the Holy Land;"
"Rewriting the Past: The Discovery of
the Dead Sea Scrolls and Their Impact;"
"Reinyenting Religion: Did Israel's God,

Machon Hosts
Israel Tour

Machon L:Torah will host a tour to
Israel this summer, led by Rabbi and
Mrs. Jacobovitz.
There will be lectures and discussions
by local scholars and Jewish study in the
areas of philosophy, language, history,
laws, customs and general information.
Participants will also interact with Israeli
families. The group will be based at the
Heritage House in the Old City of
Jerusalem.
The tour will depart Detroit on
Sunday, Aug. 15, and will return
Monday, Aug. 30. All applications must
be received by May 30.
