Shaarey Zedek said her experience will
be more personal because she has rela-
tives in Poland and Israel. Not only did
her grandparents survive, but her whole
family is from Poland. Her mother
lived near Krakow and her father lived
in Lodz, and settled here in the 1960s.
"This will be a life march, not a
death march," said Gajda, 17, of
Farmington. "We'll be walking
together wearing blue anoraks and
Israeli flags waving above us. When
we're marching from Auschwitz to
Birkenau, we'll be remembering our
families. I've seen the movies and
museums, and it's not the same when
you see it through your own eyes."
Tapper, too young to talk to his
great-grandfather who lost most of his
family but got out of Krakow alive,
has always had an interest in the
Holocaust.
When one watches Schindler's List,
they can see what happened with their
own eyes instantaneously, Tapper said.
"They can either turn it off or walk
out of the movie theater," he said.
"When you're in Auschwitz, there's no
