01' Changes at Kol Ami;
searching for what?;
recycling the prayers

After a year of searching both nation-
ally and locally for an education direc-
tor, Temple Kol Ami has hired one of
its own members, Andrea Liberman.
Liberman, formerly Akiva Hebrew
Day School's supervisor of special
education, has already been running
much of Kol Ami's educational pro-
gram on an interim basis.
But as the Reform temple gains one
professional, it loses another: Executive
Director Joe Tarica, who has been in
that post three years. According to Kol
Ami President Mark Wilner, the 450-
family temple is no longer able to afford
an executive director and will instead go
back to relying heavily on the volunteer
work of the board's executive commit-
tee. Membership increased much less
rapidly than had been anticipated when
Kol Ami hired Tarica, said Wilner.

Investigations (OSI) would like to
talk to any of the 3,000 persons who
worked in the Budzyn Labor Camp
(Heinkle Aircraft Factory) from June
1943 to March, 1944; the Krasnick
Labor Camp, or its subcamp, Wifo,
from June, 1943, to October, 1943;
or the Rachow Labor Camp from
June, .1943, to February, 1944.
Justice officials told the Detroit
News that they could not elaborate on
the specifics of the investigation and
why they wanted the Detroit area to
help. Last year, a Croatian camp
supervisor was deported following a
similar call for witnesses in this area.
Survivors may contact the OSI by

Following the November dedication

of its own prayer book Shema Yisrael•
Hear, 0 Israel, edited by Rabbi Paul
Yedwab, Temple Israel donated 400
copies of the hard-cover prayer book •
Gates of Prayer and several copies of a
paperback siddur to four other
Michigan congregations.
Recipients included the Grosse Pointe
Jewish Council, Congregation Bet
Chaverim in Canton, Congregation
Shaarey Zedek in East Lansing and
Eastern Michigan University Hillel.
"Whereas these may have been surplus
to you, they have great value to us,"
Bet Chaverim's Glenn Greenfield
wrote to Temple Israel after getting
150 copies of the prayer book. "We
appreciate your acts of kindness
towards our congregation and your
commitment to supporting Judaism
throughout our country.
