"Nifty Nancy" explains a science
project involving magnets.

hear, 'Oh, wow! How did that hap-
pen?' Their minds are opening as we
discover and discuss the endless ques-
tions and possibilities of science."
Wearing a white lab coat, embroi-
dered‘vith atoms, molecules and insects,
Serlin as Nifty Nancy the Science Lady,
arrives at parties with a bag of tricks in
hand. Experiments can be chosen by the
birthday child and are executed to fit the
needs and ages of the kids.
Serlin's parties include varied exper-
iments, the science lesson, and a relat-
ed hands-on project for the children
to create. Experiments can include
light and color, static electricity, volca-
noes and magnets.
Jonah Scapelliti of Farmington
Hills brought Nifty Nancy to his fifth
year birthday party to entertain his
friends with a few amazing experi-
ments. Guests made gumdrops out of
Jell-O and water, and had a lesson on
chemical reactions. In a pie tin, they
created an erupting volcano with bak-
ing soda and vinegar.
"The kids interacted and the
experiments were mesmerizing for the
children," says Jonah's mom, Amy
Scapelliti. "The party was truly fabu-
lous. As a teacher, she has a wonderful
way of capturing the kids." ❑

Nifty Nancy charges $125 for 45
minutes. Nancy Serlin can be
reached at (248) 553-3282.
