AIFILENTION From Passover To Shavuot GM EMPLOYEES & FAMILY MEMBERS The Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit will stage "From Pesach to Shavuot: Countdown to Receiving the Torah," a family program about the seven weeks of the Omer. Taking place simultaneously at both the Kahn and JPM buildings on April 18, the program will feature crafts so kids ages 4-12 can learn about the Omer, the 50 days of the harvest season between Passover and Shavuot. Kids will be able to create crafts, such as a depiction of the crossing of the Red Sea, harvest a fun-to-eat "crop" like an ancient Israelite farmer, and make their own tablets of the Ten Commandments. One of the highlights is creating a game families can play right away and take home to play again and again. The fare also will include ice-cream sundaes cour- t esy of Golden Valley Dairy and a raffle t o win a family pack of David Syme concert tickets. Modern Jewish Art Explored Artist and Judaica art authority Esther Tarnoff Cooper will discuss the "Mystique of Modern Jewish Art" at the next Food for Thought Breakfast of the Jewish Federation Women's Campaign and Education Department. The event begins at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, April 15, at Congregation B'nai Moshe. Cooper teaches art appreciation throughout metropolitan Detroit. Through the Detroit Institute of Arts, she brings art into classrooms and to community groups. She has been a docent and has taught courses at Oakland Community College, Southfield Community Education Center and the Midrasha. Also a =D ceramist and painter, Cooper attended 1' the International Conference on Jewish Art in Jerusalem. Helayne Kaplan and Debbie Landau are chairs of the Food for Thought Breakfast series.
