community, will be the focus of the 1999-2000 edition of the JN SourceBook.
Tell us about someone you know who is your mitzvah role model. Often these
"Honorable Menschen" work quietly with passionate dedication. Many of these individu-

award to Debra Glendening-
Karmanos, Judge Edward Sosnick
and Mary Vincenti. More than 275
supporters attended the event at the
Somerset Inn in Troy. Judge Sosnick
noted that when he became involved
in the movement to end domestic
violence, it was a private affair. Now
through the work of HAVEN and a
coordinated community effort,
abusers are held accountable and fam-
ilies have counseling and can live vio-
lence-free lives. HAVEN has many
planned events in the next few
months. "Take Back the Night,"
scheduled Thursday, April 29, at the
Royal Oak Farmer's Market, is a rally,
march and survivor speak-out. "The
Promenade of Hope 1999," a dinner-
auction on Thursday, June 3, is at
Dearborn's Ritz-Carlton Hotel. Buzz
Silverman and Robert Sosnick are
some of the co-chairs of the 12th
anniversary fund-raiser. For informa-
tion, call (248) 334-2343, ext. 26.
