the American public and his fellow Jews
about the atrocities of Nazi Germany.
Finally, the charismatic Peter
Bergson, a former member of the Irgun
terrorists in Palestine, is able to muster
the support of luminaries including
Will Rogers Jr., Max Lerner and Ben
Hecht. This "Bergson Group" begins a
public relations blitz — newspaper ads,
articles, touring theatrical productions
and speeches — to bring the plight of
European Jews directly to the public.
Still, the term "too little, too late"
turns out to be appropriate here. By
war's end, the War Refugee Board has
managed to save some 200,000 lives,
but this number is terribly small com-
pared to the six million Jews who have
been exterminated.
As to the fate of Kurt Klein and his
parents — the end of their story is
both bitter and sweet. But you'll have
to watch the program to find out for
yourself
