Hermelin (his stepbrother) and Adat
Shalom Synagogue President Terran
Leemis (his sister).
The Shiffmans were honored at
the 1997 fundraising dinner of
Yeshiva Beth Yehudah, and their
names are on the outside of the yeshi-
va's boys' schools. They have also
been major donors to Hillel, Akiva
and Yeshiva Gedolah. Dr. Shiffman
serves on the Alliance for Jewish
Education, a new Federation initia-
tive to enhance community planning
for all levels of Jewish education.
Mrs. Shiffman is active at the
Holocaust Memorial Center, and with
Jewish Family Service, Hadassah and the
National Council of Jewish Women.
A retired surgeon, Dr. Shiffman is
involved with the Jewish National
Fund, Machon L'Torah and Jewish
Vocational Service.
He's also involved in real estate.
"He said to me once that whenever
he closes a deal, it feels good to know
some of it will go back to the com-
munity," said Rabbi Daniel Nevins of
Adat Shalom, where Dr. Shiffman is
past president. "They're a very nice
couple and they really care about the
whole Jewish community." Fl
