Scholar Visits
Shir Shalom
Gregory S. Mahler, provost at
Kalamazoo College, will be scholar in
residence at Temple Shir Shalom
beginning Friday evening, April 9.
Mahler will be the guest at an adult
Shabbat dinner at 6:30 and services
following at 8. Speaking on the topic
"Israeli Politics: What the Future
Holds," Mahler will address the Israeli
electoral process and where the non-
Orthodox community fits into the
Israeli democracy.
Mahler will join the temple's Torah
class at 10 a.m. and morning services
at 11 on Saturday, April 10.
Mahler received his doctorate from
Duke University in 1976, his master's
from Duke in 1974 and his bachelor's
degree from Oberlin College in 1972.
Honors include a Fullbright research
grant in 1988, a Bush Foundation
scholar in residence in 1983 and a
Fullbright-Hays dissertation fellow
(when he spent a year in Israel) in
1974-75. He's past president of the
Association for Israel Studies.
