says his mother, Cissy Bakst, makes the
best charoses anybody could get ...
apples, nuts, honey and a little wine ...
"I can make a meal out of it spread on
crackers, apple slices and various fresh
fruits," drools Mickey.
Next in line for him is the fried
matzah she makes ... and those
yummy chocolate-covered raspberry
jelly rings at Passover time.
The first night seder is always for
about 24 at the home of Mickey's par-
ents, Cissy and Mike Bakst ... with
traditional cooking for the entire fami-
ly prepared by Cissy "My mom is a
great cook!" exclaims Mickey, who
should know, even if just a wee bit
biased.
Among the things she makes for
the family each year at Passover is a
baked chicken with a glace of catsup,
honey and mayonnaise ... "It's out of
this world!" says Mickey ..."Her
matzah kugel with golden raisins,
gefilte fish and fluffy matzah balls, too.
And you should taste her sponge
cake!" ... Big accolades from someone
who has tasted the finest food in the
world by creation's greatest chefs.
What does Mickey do during the
seder? ... One of America's finest
maitre d's and restaurant general man-
agers, it is plain Mickey Bakst on
seder night as he sets the table and
serves the delicious Passover fare.
Among the great food Mickey
remembers was a dish about 15 or 20
years ago when he was invited for
seder while living and working in
never forget it,"
Miami Beach ...
mouth-waters Mickey. "A duck noo-
dle casserole with red currants and a
raspberry glace, baked and served on
a bed of raspberries. It knocked my
socks off?"
But as good as it was, he admits
the dish couldn't compare with
Cissy's cooking of traditional Passover
foods ... "She's the best!" Mickey
exclaims again.
LIMERICK DEPT. ... There was a
man so benighted ... He never knew
when he was slighted ... At both
Passover seders ... He'd eat chicken
and potaters ... As if he'd been really
invited.
There was a lady from Keating ...
Whose matzah brei took a terrible
beating ... The eggs she'd throw in
with zest ... Made a horrible, horrible
mess ... But oh, what wonderful eat-
ing.
There was a young girl from
Decatur ... Who gobbled up dishes at
seder ... "I love Passover food!" ... She
contentedly cooed ... While thinking
of what she'll eat later. II
