tenor brings a new poignancy to
Friedman's "Ride 'em, Jewboy," which,

true when, as a 15-year-old
in 1973, I heard Kinky Friedman's

remains so today, as I listen to the
new Kinky tribute album, Pearls in
the Snow (Kinkajou Records).
But this new collection does
more than just remind me of that.
It allows one to see, courtesy of
the passage of time, just how great
a songwriter Richard "Kinky"
Friedman really was in his prime.
In the 1970s, Kinky was a reve-
