Pre-School
Director Named

Deborah Fisher-Mendelson was named
director of Congregation Beth Shalom's
first early childhood program.
Before coming to Beth Shalom,
Fisher-Mendelson was assistant director
of education at Temple Israel. She served
as disabilities specialist for the Wayne
County Regional Educational Service
Agency, where she was a consultant to
the Head Start program and lead teacher
for the Illinois At-Risk program in the
North Chicago school district. She holds
a teaching certification from the state of
Michigan.
Beth Shalom's program will focus on
child development, Judaism and family.
Parent involvement will be encouraged
inside and outside the classroom.

Seelig Gives
Israel Update

Evelyn Seelig, president of MERCAZ
USA (the Zionist organization of the
Conservative Movement), will give an
"Israel Update" 7:30 p.m. Thursday,
March 18, at Congregation B'nai
Moshe.
Seelig, former national president of
Women's League for Conservative
Judaism, recently returned from Israel
where she met with government officials.
She is an officer of MERCAZ Olami,
the international umbrella for
Conservative Zionist affiliates in North
and South America, Europe and Israel.
Seelig serves on the boards of directors of
the United Synagogue of Conservative
Judaism, the Jewish Theological
Seminary and the World Council of
Conservative Synagogues. In 1985, she
was the recipient of the Community
Leadership Award from the JTS.
The program is sponsored by the
Michigan Branch Women's League for
Conservative Judaism, Michigan Region
United Synagogue of Conservative
Judaism and the Federation of Men's
Clubs-Great Lakes.
