"It was a lovely evening, with friendly speeches, flowing wine and everyone was tanned and pretty." Said Mark Davidoff, the chief operating offiCer of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, "The general expectation of the meeting was not to call names and s ecure gifts but to build foundations ith a group of prospective donors. From that point, we were successful. We knew there would be some who'd announce gifts at the meet- ing." Other officials at the gathering included Greenberg, JCC President Larry Wolfe, JCC Executive Director David Sorkin and JCC Executive ,.-lice President Mort Plotnick. "It was a beautiful evening, in a beautiful home with a wonderful turnout," Greenberg said. "A lot of people expressed interest in support- ing the Center." "I know they raised a few dollars without blinking an eye — includ- ing some from me," said Alvin X/eisberg, friend of the 0 0 , a long-time 7-- Kahns from Michigan. "I knew there wasn't 0 going b to be a hard sell. It was just a very lovely evening." Formal fund-raising by Federation constituent agencies will resume after April 1, following; the end of this year's Allied Jewish Campaign. Until the Florida meeting, the \JCC had raised about $13.1 million since last year. Some of the more recent donor names that will be attached to JCC areas are: Alan and Pauline Dubin, for the outdoor track, 5150,000; Norm and Ann Katz, for the outdoor pool and plaza, $350,000; Steve and Arlene Victor, for the Rosenberg Complex multipurpose room, $200,000. "People are hard to pin down now with so many of them out of the city, so we're sitting back," Greenberg said. We did this to alert and educate people. We'll start get- ting the wheels in motion so we can hit the ground running when the [Allied Jewish Campaign] corridor ends. , At this point, Greenberg's plan is already in motion. "We have very already good prospects for more donations and we're very pleased. with the progress so far. Twenty-five million is a very doable number," he said. "At first, we were a little unsure, but now we're very confident." 7 w 2E36 MAPLE BIRMINGHAM (248) 540-1977 ..1) jaquioci Jape - al Ja>plis spiano pocip45 Moileh TEACHING KIDS TO fireplace COUNT IS FINE. 30903 ORCHARD LAKE RD TEACHING THEM WHA (248) 855-0303 COUNTS IS BEST barbecue EARLY BIRD SPECIALS Genesis 1000 '470' Genesis 2000 $ 541199 SUMMIT 450 $1899-99 YOUR CHOICE L.P.
