Offers Scholarship
Applications are being accepted from
college students for an academic year's
study in Israel funded by the Harry and
Sarah Laker Israel College Scholarship
Fund.
This is the 23rd year in which a
,=5:2,500 cash award will be given to a
winning student who has been accepted
by one of the following: Bar-Ilan
University, Haifa University, Tel Aviv
University, Ben-Gurion University of
the Negev or Hebrew University of
Jerusalem.
To qualify, the applicant must be a
resident of the metropolitan Detroit
area, currently attending a college or
university in the United States and must
have applied to one of the above schools
of higher learning in Israel.
Applications for the scholarship,
which is co-sponsored by the Beth
Achim Religious School of Adat Shalom
Synagogue, are available by calling the
synagogue, (248) 851-5100, or by writ-
ing to the Laker Scholarship Fund,
-29902 Middlebelt Road, Farmington
Hills, MI 48334.
The final date to apply is May 14.

The Agency for Jewish Education invites
;7K-12 grade Jewish educators to its next
Learn and Lead Workshop, "Jewish
Women: The Historic
Struggle for Power and
Recognition," present-
ed by Rabbi Sherwin
T Wine, founder and
spiritual leader of the
Birmingham Temple.
The program will be
held 7-8:45 p.m.
Rabbi
Wednesday, March 10, Sherwin Wine
at the temple.
During the first half of the evening,
participants will have the opportunity to
study Jewish text with Rabbi Wine.
Following the text study, participants
will break into groups; education direc-
tors from Reform, Conservative and sec-
ular schools will lead discussions on how
the material can be taught to students.
Learn and Lead is part of the Agency
for Jewish Education's NIRIM
Professional Enrichment Program for
Jewish Educators. Eligible educators will
receive two NIRIM units. The work-
shop is free of charge. To register, con-
