philanthropist and Detroit
business executive, will chair
the executive committee of
the new entity that officially merges
the United Jewish Appeal, the
Council of Jewish Federations and the
United Israel Appeal.
. He will become the second major
volunteer appointment, joining the as
vet unnamed entity's chairman of the
board, Charles Bronfman.
"My respon-
sibilities are not
formally spelled
out because the
entity is still
under forma-

said. For now,
the job is to get
the organization
up and run-
ning.''
Both
Joel Tauber .
Bronfman and
Tauber will assume office when the
board of trustees ratifies the full slate of
officers. Currently, they are interviewing
several candidates that a search commit-

administrator.
"The organization will always
emphasize Jews in need and Jews in
trouble anywhere in the world as its
No. 1 priority;" said Tauber. "Since the
Jewish people are in a somewhat better
condition than they have been in many
years, we can at least think about their
cultural and spiritual survival."
Tauber, a past president and chair-

member of the board of governors of
the Jewish Agency for Israel. He serves
on the executive committee and board
of governors of the Jewish Federation

Bloomfield resident heads Tauber
Holdings, a Southfield-based compa-

Calling Detroit a "major player,"
Tauber said the new entity will be
influenced by the leadership of Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit
