Akiva Ties
For Second

Akiva Hebrew Day School's varsity
basketball team tied for second place
at the Oren Grunbaum Hebrew
Academy Basketball Tournament in
Montreal, Canada.
Akiva beat all three Montreal
entrants in the Feb. 11-14 tournament,
including a dramatic 59-44 win over
Hebrew Academy in their final game.
Akiva had been down 14 points at half-
time, and was sparked by Luli
Gottfreid's 22 points in the second half.
Gottfried was named to the first-
ream All-Tournament squad, with Zevi
Reinitz getting second-team honors.
Akiva's only loss was to Monenson
High School, a ream made up of
Israeli all-stars.
Akiva's next international test
comes at the Yeshiva University
Tournament, March 18-22, in New
York City.

MC Swimmer
Makes Waves

Jenna Kraft, a 12-year-old on the
Jewish Community Center Marlins
swim team, competed in the state
middle school swim meet in Grand
Rapids.
Kraft, a seventh-grader at Banks
Middle School in Walled Lake, fin-
ished in 15th place in the 100 yard
individual medley with a time of
1:15.95, and 14th in the 50 yard but-
terfly in 33.59.
