JODIE KAUFMAN Special to The Jewish News K /- 7-) ixty-two metro Detroit teenagers headed off to Los Angeles Feb. 12-16 for the biennial North American Federation of Temple Youth (NFTY) National Convention. Students from 11 Michigan temples were represented, including Temples Israel, Beth El, Shir Tikvah and Shir Shalom. They joined 1,500 Jewish youth from 20 regions throughout North America. The teens got together to elect a new national board, attend work- shops, and have a- good time. Michigan regional president and Temple Beth El member Megan Harris-Linton, a senior at Birmingham Groves, said she was "so proud of the Michigan region — we really stood out. When we walked off the plane we were all wearing matching Michigan NFTY (in Hebrew) shirts." Each region was required to send four voting dele- gates from its regional board; non-delegate mem- bers were also wel- come. Most of Michigan's repre- sentatives, includ- ing West Bloomfield High School senior Mike Stoller of Temple Israel, found the number of people at the event "overwhelming.
