nly having passed away the day
before, the official King
Hussein bin Talal Web page
quickly took the form of a eulogy to
the longest-serving leader in the
Middle East.
It opens with a proverb of sorts, a
couple of hundred words at most,
talking about what man looks for in
life, and about living in fear of God.
In tribute to King
,e
;.> r
Hussein, the proverb ends,

'All what we hope for is
that a day will come when
we have all gone, when
people will say that this
man has tried, and his
family tried. This is all
there is to seek in this
world."
Beyond the tribute to
King Hussein, the site
opens to a highly detailed
picture of his office, com-
plete with a flickering
fireplace. Virtually every
item in the office serves
as a link to another section of the site.
The first link from the office
graphic is King Hussein I. It gives a
slideshow, portraying him as a father,
teacher, sportsman, leader, pilot,
Muslim, statesman and soldier.
His biography takes Web surfers
from his birth to education to ascen-
sion to the throne. His hobbies, by
the way, were flying, motorcycling and
driving race cars. He also enjoyed
water sports, skiing, tennis, ham
radio, and surfing the Internet.
The "Jordan" link from the office
page offers a history of vital points in

The site's family tree is also fasci-
nating, tracing the Hashemites from
the Prophet Mohammed to the 14
grandchildren and four grandnieces
and nephews of King Hussein.
The site is truly a wealth of infor-
mation about the country of Jordan,
but at the present time of worldwide
mourning for King Hussein, the site's
major problem is the speed at which it
runs at. It would appear that many are
trying to get on the Web site to get
information on Hussein.
