Curtain Call Danny Gurwin, a graduate of the University of Michigan musical theater program and formerly of Southfield, is appearing off-Broadway with Phyllis Newman in A Majority of One. Gurwin, last year cast off- Broadway in Shakespeare's R I, plays the son-in-law of Newman's character, a Jewish widow who meets a Japanese businessman on board an ocean liner and falls in love. Newman, who is the wife of Broadway lyricist and librettist Adolph Green and has a string of Broadway hits, includ- ing Follies, Subways Are for Sleeping and Broadway Bound, enjoys working with Gurwin. "What can I say about Danny?" Newman asks. "Well, I adore him and he's a wonderful actor. He's very, very funny and 1 absolutely love working with him." In between his New York roles, Gurwin appeared in a Utah produc- tion of Sweeney Todd. A Majority of One, which runs through Feb. 14, is part of the 25th anniversary season of the Jewish Repertory Theatre, 316 E. 91st Street, New York City.
