he '60s" producer Lynda
Obst thinks of Jewish singer-
songwriter Bob Dylan as her
inspiration — someone able
to connect art, politics and poetry in the
context of the pop culture. Here are
some other Jewish newsmakers who
grabbed headlines during the decade:

• Allen Ginsberg, poet, anti-war demon-
strator and drug advocate, writes Kaddish
(1961).

• Brian Epstein, manager of the Beatles,
secures the Fab Four a record contract
with E.M.I. (May 1962). He dies of a
drug overdose in 1967.
