On Sunday

Photographers, party planners, florists,
caterers, cartoonists, DJ's, and video
producers will be on hand 9:15 a.m.-3
p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7, when the Beth El
Sisterhood hosts the 11th annual Party
Planning Showcase at the temple, 14
Mile and Telegraph, in Bloomfield
Township.
A complimentary directory of party
experts will be given to all who attend.
The event is open to the public at no
charge .
More than 30 local exhibitors will
demonstrate how to make a party a
hit. Visitors can sample hors d'oeuvres
and desserts, win a door prize and bid
on silent auction items.

Medical Ethics
Conference Set

Dr. Steven Lorch, Forensic Science
Division laboratory director for the
Michigan State Police, will analyze
procedures used by Dr. Jack Kevorkian
in some assisted suicide cases. The
analysis will take place at the 10th
annual International Conference on
Jewish Medical Ethics Feb. 12-15 in
San Francisco.
Lorch's workshop is titled "Sucide,
Medicide or Homicide?" Dr. Avraham
Steinberg will team with Lorch and
offer the halachic perspective. Dr.
Steinberg is Hebrew University-
Hadassah Medical School Center for
Medical Ethics director and
Department of Pediatrics attending
physician for Shaare Zedek Medical
Center, Jerusalem.
Sponsored by the Institute of
Jewish Medical Ethics of the Hebrew
Academy of San Francisco and offered
for continuing education credit by the
Stanford University School of
Medicine, the conference annually
attracts 400 physicians, rabbis and
other health care professionals from
throughout North America and other
countries. The National Council of
Young Israel also is a co-sponsor.
At the Feb. 15 session, Lord
Immanuel Jakobovits will be honored
as the "Founder of Jewish Medical
Ethics" in salute of the publication of
his classic work Jewish Medical Ethics
40 years ago. The program will feature
lectures by and a discussion between
Lord Jakobovits and Nobel Laureate
