"We have a responsibility toward the
earth." Her son Eric, 13, especially
enjoyed the symbolism behind "the
phases of drinking four different cups
of grape juice," each one a different
color representing seasons from white
for winter to full-red for autumn.
The group tasted traditional Tu
B'Shevat foods, including figs and
dates as well as the Israeli grown
almonds and oranges. Seder co-spon-
sors were the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit and Tamarack
Adult Adventures.
At the D. Dan and Betty Kahn
Jewish Community Center in West
Bloomfield on Sunday, the "Tree of
Life" program offered an opportunity
for families to learn about Tu
B'Shevat. The group discussed biblical
quotes associated with trees, and par-
ticipated in related hands-on craft pro-
jects. They also shared Tu B'Shevat
treats, including edible "trees" they
made out of pretzels, peanut butter
and candy. A similar program was
held Jan. 28 at the Jimmy Prentis
Morris JCC in Oak Park. fl
