Staffed by Michigan/Israel
Connection executive director and
community shlicha Yael Waxman and
assistant director Lisa Hobson,
ComeBack/Give Back requires teen
mission participants to get involved in
the Jewish community upon their
return.
(----
Projects include a young speakers
forum, which sends the teens to speak
before local organizations, sharing
their experiences in talks at their high
school, volunteering at Yad Ezra, the
Michigan Jewish AIDS Coalition and
the Tzedakah Experience, helping
maintain the Michigan/Israel
Connection Web site, serving on
Michigan/Israel Connection Jewish
Federation committees, and organiz-
ing a photo and journal exhibit.
Many of the teens are correspond-
ing by mail and e-mail with Israeli
friends they made on the mission.
The Michigan/Israel Connection is
updating the alumni through e-mail:
tmalumni@ifmd.org
A May retreat is planned for the
230 teen mission participants.
In addition, the teens are involved
in a project in conjunction with the
Ramallah Federation in Dearborn to
build bridges between the two com-
munities.
A group of 60 teens will join the
Come Back/Give Back program
when they return from the March of
the Living in April. The participants
will be divided into groups of four,
one each from the Reform,
Conservative and Orthodox streams
and one Israeli. Each group will pre-
pare a presentation about sites in
Israel and Poland and present it to all
of the other participants and at a
Miracle Mission III mega-event in
Jerusalem.
