Bar/Bat Mitzvah

important mitzvah projects. A stu-
dent at Abbott Middle School in
West Bloomfield, Gabriel collects vin-
tage 1970s basketball cards and per-
sonalized autographs by writing to
the players.

Julie Brooke Kaplan will become a
bat mitzvah on Saturday, Jan. 23, at
Temple Israel. She is the daughter of
Kim and Robert Kaplan, sister of
Danielle and grand-
child of Cecile and
Elliott Kaplan and
Gloria and Marty
Miller. Excited
great-grandmother
is Pearl Miller.
Attending
Warner Middle
School in
Farmington Hills
where she is an honor student and
plays percussion in the school band,
Julie enjoys computers, music and
the Detroit Pistons. Her mitzvah
projects are on an on-going basis;
she volunteers weekly at Danto
Nursing Facility and spends time
each week with a special needs child
through the Friendship Circle.

Evan Matthew Schwartz will be
called to the Torah as a bar mitzvah
on Saturday, Jan. 23, at Adat
Shalom Synagogue. He is the son of
Kathie and Jeffrey
Schwartz and
brother of Ashley.
Evan is the grand-
son of Geraldine
Kraus and Sandra
and Harvey
Schwartz. He is also
the grandson of the
late Edmond M.
Kraus. Excited great-grandmothers
are Esther Kaplan and Idelle Fischer.
An honor student at Orchard
Lake Middle School in West
Bloomfield, Evan enjoys basketball,
roller hockey, football and snow-
boarding. He completed 13 mitzvah
projects through Adat Shalom edu-
cation.

Hillary Alana Brody was called to
the Torah as a bat mitzvah Saturday,
Jan. 16, at Congregation Shaarey
Zedek. Hillary is the daughter of
Lisa and Gerald Brody of
Birmingham and big sister to Joshua
and Jacob. Grandparents Terry and
Dr. Claude Oster and Rhea and
Robert Brody, all of Bloomfield

Hills, are delighted
to share in Hillary's
simchah. Hillary
also is the great-
granddaughter of
Isabel Orley of
Southfield.
Hillary is an
honor student at
Cranbrook Kingswood Middle
School in Bloomfield Hills, where
she is the seventh-grade class presi-
dent. Hillary enjoys reading, writ-
ing, art, tennis and computers.
Meaningful mitzvah project activ-
ities included delivering food for
Yad Ezra, sewing dolls for Hadassah
Hospital and babysitting during
Shabbat services at Shaarey Zedek.
Hillary will make a donation to Yad
Ezra in honor of her bat mitzvah.

Daniel Friedberg will be called to
the Torah as a bar mitzvah on
Saturday, Jan. 23, at Temple Emanu-
El. He is the son of Rena and Larry
Friedberg and
brother of Emily.
Proud grandparents
are Sylvia Goldman
of Corsicana, Texas,
and Mildred and
Joseph Friedberg of
Bethpage, N.Y.
Dan attends
Norup Middle
School in Berkley and enjoys many
sports, especially football, baseball
and snow boarding. For his mitzvah
project he participated in a variety of
projects through Volunteer Impact.

Kodesh. He is the
