BBYO Streaks
Kept And Broken

LONNY GOLDSMITH
Staff Writer

ir

he last eight years, one
thing has been as certain at
BBYO Regional
Convention as death and
taxes in the grown-up world: Kishon
winning the award as AZA's most dis-
tinguished chapter.
Despite stiff competition, the
streak continues.
Although descimated by gradua-
tion, Kishon's amazing streak hit
nine during December's Regional
Convention in metro Detroit, edging
Greenberg AZA by two points. The
difference: not enough Greenberg
members were at the Shabbat
chugim.
"I thought there were some deci-
sions against us that weren't right,"
said Greenberg's stunned president,
Mitch Pollack.
But Pollack quickly smiled because
Greenberg halted another chapter's
even-longer streak, Jolson AZA's 15-
year reign as winner of the best cheer
competition.
"It was really nice to win," Pollack
said. "We knew we had a good cheer,
but at the last minute added a human
Jewish star to it."
Greenberg also ended the modest
streak of three straight song competi-
tion wins by Jolson.
A record that can never be broken
belongs to Hanna LoPatin, who won
the storytelling contest. It is the first
time that anyone has won all four
competitions they could compete in.
LoPatin's Achayot BBG chapter
won the most distinguished chapter
award for the fourth straight year.

15-year-old Jessica Fischer of West
Bloomfield keeps her eyes on the ball.
