prices down ... Another reason for
paper napkins with the white linen
tablecloths.
It is a six-day operation ... open
Tuesday to Thursday, 11 a.m. - 9
p.m.; Friday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Sat-
urday, 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Sunday,
10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
This type of restaurant has long
been a great favorite among people,
both Jewish and non-Jewish ... The
excellent dishes prepared with such
tasty goodness have never gone out of
style ... There just haven't been too
many places in recent years that served
a good variety ... There will always be
those that prepare some of the
favorites ... But not any that concen-
trates solely on these Jewish, Russian
and other European dishes, with per-
haps a small smattering of American
favorites like broiled Lake Superior
whitefish, which is also a big asked-for
Fiddler choice.
Mike has not only finally seen the
reality of a dream for himself and
Maya ... He has made a lot of people
very happy
• THE NAME "Detroit's Original
Sheik" for the Middle-Eastern restau-
rant on Orchard Lake Road, south of
13, is no more ... A new sign will
show the name changed to Desert
Sands restaurant.
This is so it won't be confused with
The Sheik, also on Orchard Lake
Road, between Pontiac Trail and Lone
Pine ... whose name remains the same.
Both are under separate ownership.
GET WELL WISHES ... to Dave
Hermelin ... recuperating after his
operation at Henry Ford Hospital.
OUTSIDE THERE was upwards
of 12 inches of cold blizzard snow ...
Inside, Mel Ball and Colours were
putting out high energy rhythms to
make things hot for dancers like Gov.
John Engler and Michelle Engler, who
danced until 2 in the morning.
It was the second inaugural event
for Engler ... and the bad weather be
hanged, almost everyone invited
showed up at the Fisher Theatre Sat-
urday evening wingding.
Mel had a full band of 23 pieces,
