Missing Grandpa

ne of my hardest experi-
ences in my life was the
death of my grandpa.
\_,
,--,- was very close to him and we
played a lot. When I was little, we
l ived in Dallas and Kansas City. My
grandpa would come to visit us a lot.
When we moved to Michigan, he
would come over to my house to
play. He came over in the mornings
on the way to work. We would play
cards. On the weekends, he would
take me out for breakfast and we
would play some basketball.
Then he got sick. Things changed
when that happened. He was tired a
lot. He did not feel strong enough to
play basketball or cards. The
\rhemotherapy made him lose his
'appetite and he was too tired to go
out for breakfast.
When he started to feel a little bet-
ter we did go for breakfast again, but
then he started to have a lot of pain

and we couldn't do it anymore.
My grandpa went into the hospital
at the end of April 1998. He was
very tired. I would call him on the
phone, and he would ask me about
my baseball team. He would call me
"Slugger." He was so happy when I
would tell him about my doubles and
triples.
I saw him only once at the hospital.
It was after a game. I was in my uni-
form. He was tired, but so happy to
see me.
I really .miss my Grandpa. He died
on May 22, 1998.
I have learned that you cannot put
things off because you never know
what will happen later. You have to
do things as soon as you can. You
always have to treat people nicely
and be proud of your behavior
because you never know if you will
have another opportunity to do it
again.
I am glad that I had such a good
relationship with my grandpa. I think
of him when I play cards, basketball
and baseball. I know that he would
be very proud of me. ri
