Normally, this is quite easy; after all, the author wants u to understand what it is he or she is trying to say. However, the story that The Jewish News ran about Yeshiv- at Akiva made finding the main idea difficult at best. In fairness, the situation at Akiva is indeed newsworthy, but the story's slant was unnecessary. One may indeed conclude that "rightist" Ortho- doxy as a whole is anti-intellectual, 'intolerant and closed-minded. There- fore, a school espousing those values would be an unworthy steward for educating young people. If there is a rightist drift in Ortho- doxy, it is primarily because schools like Akiva succeeded in their goals. The study quoted in the article notes \ the importance of intense text-orient- „171 Torah study on the high school level as key to Jewish continuity — maybe because the only way one can develop a sense of being part of Jewish continuity lies in that intense study being only available in yeshivot.
