COHN - HADDOW CENTER FOR JUDAIC STUDIES
AT WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY
AND BORDERS FARMINGTON HILLS

presents a lecture at Borders by

Dr. Elizabeth Heineman

Associate Professor, Department of History,
Bowling Green State University

"The Transformation of
Anne Frank:

From Doomed Diarist
to Symbol of Hope"

As Anne Frank has been trans-
formed from one teenaged girl into a
universal symbol of the Holocaust,
she has taken on a wide variety of
meanings. Prof. Heineman will
explore the reasons the postwar
world has used and interpreted the
diary in such divergent ways, and
she will discuss the implications of
the diary's tremendous fame for our
understanding of the Holocaust.
