Ed wa.al SA TO v :vsa, val 2:::PUZY•a T.:_: Haar.: :-as 0:3,113.-73.7313.3 To keep friends and family posted around the country; the United Synagogue Youth Web site posted daily \ip,dates of its international convention Chicago. The site, uscj.org/usy/ic/ic98.htm, has a host of pictures and information from the Dec. 27-31 convention. A link off the main page connects to the intro- duction to the convention, which hosted 1,200 members of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism's youth group branch. Each day shows a handful of pictures of convention-related activities, and some text of what was done, which included sightseeing, classes with educa- tors and a concert. As shown rather well by the Web site, the week was filled with study sessions, prayer services and social activities. The page gives the first announce- ent of the new international officers for USY (none from Detroit) and the unveiling of the USY chapter of the year, from Newton, Mass. v •LIFL up.lat ye 'a: toac kr:Uri.3 33a: The page has relevant links to the Web sites of groups or people that spoke at the convention, the weather in Chicago from the Chicago Tribune and the link to the HaNegev USY web-diary from the convention. The Florida chapter's site, www.uscj.org/soeast/usy/ic98, is as well done, yet highly self-congratula- tory for its accomplishments. The benefit of its site over the general convention's is that it carries infor- mation from the last day of conven- tion, New Year's Eve. That is one of the few downfalls of the main site: still nothing on the closing of the convention. Overall, the main site is quite well done, if not graphically interesting. It's not breaking any new Internet ground based on looks, but to see a few faces and to learn something about interna- tional convention, it certainly is good enough to get the job done. —Lonny Goldsmith Seen On The Net __They're off: Binyamin Netanyahu, Ehud Barak and a slew of others are running for the top job in Israel's government. It's a "microbrew with chutz- pah," with a site to match: cute and funny, with a humor that' theyoung entrepreneurs hope will sell lots of beer. The site opens with a basic description of the company's line — apparently just one product so far, He'Brew "Genesis Ale," described as "a tasty crisp, and delicious light brown ale — with no preservatives 33700 VI/OM:WIRD AVENUE BIRMINWOM";48009 , 241444:4665 „ , Mon. ■ Saturday 9-4 Metro Dealer Since 1956 ARNOLD LINCOLN-MERCURY-MAZDA Drive East Pay The Least • .•■ .......... They also sell T-shirts, posters, glasses and other He'Brew parapher- nalia to kitsch up your house. Another page offers an introduc- tion to the Shmaltz family — a bunch of Jewish young people with a sense of humor and some business ambition.
